Shots Fired on I-87 in Clifton Park

Clifton Park Shooting i-87

Clifton Park saw a road rage incident early Friday morning when deputies were called to Interstate 87 northbound near Grooms Road for a shots fired report. The call came in at 7:14 a.m., prompting a quick response from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say 22-year-old Landon E. Spring McCarty of Saratoga Springs allegedly fired a less lethal pistol at another vehicle while traveling north on the Northway. The projectile hit the other car, and a minor child was inside Spring McCarty’s vehicle during the incident.

Deputies say the act created a grave risk of death under circumstances showing depraved indifference to human life.

Spring McCarty was arraigned in Clifton Park Town Court on the following charges:

  • Reckless endangerment in the first degree, a class D felony
  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor
  • Endangering the welfare of a child, also a class A misdemeanor

He was released to pretrial services. Under New York law that took effect in January 2020, the charges filed in this case are not considered qualifying offenses for bail.

No major injuries were reported. The case remains under investigation, and further updates will be posted as they become available.
