Ravenswood Pub has officially been sold to new owners who promise to preserve its charm while adding a fresh touch. Dora and Michael Philip, the duo behind Albany’s The Hollow Bar + Kitchen and Rosanna’s Italian Kitchen, finalized the purchase of Ravenswood last week for $2.85 million.
The sale includes the 3,799-square-foot building, all equipment, and 1.5 acres of land. Previous owner Scott Schreifels, who took over in 2016 with his late mother Stephanie E. Van Auken, put the property on the market in May after building a loyal following.
- Ravenswood has been a Clifton Park institution since 1984
- Before it was Ravenswood, the founder (“Mama” Stephanie) also ran a beloved local Italian spot, Mama’s
- TripAdvisor ratings place Ravenswood as one of the top restaurants in Clifton Park (4.1/5)
- Earlier in 2025 the property was listed for over $3 million
What’s Next for Ravenswood?
What changes can Clifton Park expect? Not many, at least initially. The menu, known for its classic pub staples, will largely stay the same, with the addition of vegan and vegetarian options. The name might get streamlined to simply “Ravenswood” to unify the various monikers like “Ravenswood Grill & Tavern” or “The Wood” that locals use affectionately.
Importantly, the entire staff is staying on, including head chef Mike Cunningham, who’s in his second stint leading the kitchen. Philip emphasized that Cunningham’s commitment was a key factor in their decision to buy. Many employees have been with Ravenswood for a decade or more, ensuring continuity for regulars.
This acquisition comes amid challenges for the Philips’ downtown Albany ventures. Dora Philip recently shared a candid video on social media highlighting the post-pandemic struggles of urban businesses, urging people to support local spots.
Despite those hurdles, the couple remains optimistic about Albany’s revival under new Mayor Dorcey Applyrs, with Dora appointed to the Advisory Council on Nightlife Economy.
For Clifton Park, the Philips’ arrival could mean cross-pollination between our suburb and the capital city. Michael hopes Ravenswood patrons might venture downtown for events, helping to boost Albany while keeping our local gem thriving.
Whether you’re a longtime regular or a newcomer, stop in and welcome the new owners, here’s to many more years of good food, great company, and that unmistakable Ravenswood spirit!
