Is The Cookie Factory closing?

Clifton Park Cookie Factory

Update: yes, The Cookie Factory is closing. The post below was published November 28th, 2025. Please refer to the following article for the most up-to-date information:

What’s been going on?

The Cookie Factory’s legal issues has gotten more complicated, but it still hasn’t resulted in either store shutting down.

Originally, the company behind the old River Street commercial bakery filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in late 2024. That case was tied to:

  • the former bakery space on River Street
  • debt issues from before a roof collapse in December 2024
  • leftover equipment and assets from the old operation

That Chapter 7 case is still active and is meant to liquidate the older business.

New development: Another company filed Chapter 11

A separate entity connected to the owners, Fratello’s Holdings LLC, filed Chapter 11 the day before a scheduled foreclosure auction on the Troy Congress Street retail store and bakery.

Key points from the new filing:

  • It owed Sunmark Credit Union about $2.16 million
  • The foreclosure auction for the Congress Street shop was cancelled
  • Chapter 11 puts everything on hold while they try to reorganize
  • The Congress Street store remains open and was operating normally when reporters visited
  • The filing lists about $990k in assets and $2.34 million in liabilities

Chapter 11 is used to keep businesses alive while restructuring debt. It’s the “try to fix things instead of shutting down” option.

So what about Clifton Park?

Good news. Nothing in either bankruptcy case directly targets the Route 9 shop.

  • The Clifton Park / Halfmoon location is open
  • It’s keeping regular hours

At this point, the financial issues involve the Troy properties, not the Halfmoon location.
