The Girls Lacrosse Sectional Championships have taken center stage in Clifton Park this week, with Shenendehowa High School hosting an electrifying series of matches that have drawn fans, families, and sports enthusiasts from across the region.

This isn’t just any game—Voorheesville is aiming to go back-to-back as Class D champions after a stellar 2024 season where they clinched their first-ever section title in only their third year as a varsity program.

Last year, Voorheesville made headlines by defeating the three-time defending section champ Schuylerville with a commanding 17-12 victory in the Section II, Class D final, as reported by the Daily Gazette. Their 2024 campaign was nothing short of remarkable, finishing with an undefeated 14-0 record. Standout player Gabby Curley led the charge in that championship game, scoring an impressive six goals, showcasing the offensive firepower that has made Voorheesville a force to be reckoned with. Now, they’re back on the field, facing Albany Academy with hopes of continuing their reign as Class D champions.

The Sectional Championships are a two-day event at Shenendehowa High School, a hub for high school sports in Clifton Park, known for its top-notch facilities and history of hosting major regional events. Wednesday’s games covered Class A and Class D, while Thursday, May 29, brings the Class B and Class C finals, with teams like Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Queensbury battling it out in Class C.

Shenendehowa High School itself has a storied lacrosse program, though their girls’ varsity team faced challenges in recent years, including a narrow 13-14 loss to Saratoga Springs in the 2023 Section 2 Class A semifinals, according to MaxPreps. This year, the Plainsmen are proud to host the championships, providing a world-class venue for the region’s top teams to compete.

For Voorheesville, the stakes are high as they look to cement their legacy as a rising powerhouse in girls’ lacrosse. Albany Academy, their opponent in the Class D final, is no pushover, setting the stage for a thrilling contest. As the championships continue, Clifton Park remains the heart of the action, showcasing the talent, determination, and community spirit that make high school sports so special.
