(North Greenbush, NY) — A local Eagle Scout candidate helped bring new life and lasting improvements to the Tech Park Community Garden through a hands-on revitalization project that will benefit area families for decades to come.
Led by Leo Sutphin of BSA Troop 4045, scouts, leaders, families, and staff came together this spring to complete a full revitalization of the Tech Park Community Garden, with work finalized on June 11, 2026, as part of Leo’s Eagle Scout leadership project. The troop helped clear debris, restored fence lines, and built and installed four new raised garden beds, significantly improving both the functionality and appearance of the space. Leo later returned to complete the project with the installation of a hand-built garden shed and final enhancements to the raised beds, creating secure storage for tools and strengthening the garden’s long-term ability to support local families growing fresh, healthy food.
Capital Roots’ CEO Amy Klein celebrated the effort and its lasting impact.
“Community gardens are always evolving, but Leo’s leadership, along with the dedication of his troop and families, delivered immediate and meaningful improvements to the Tech Park Community Garden. The addition of a dedicated shed for tools and supplies, along with the upgraded raised beds, makes the garden significantly more functional and accessible. These improvements directly support gardeners today while strengthening community food access for decades to come.”
— Amy Klein, CEO, Capital Roots
The project highlights the power of youth leadership and community partnership in strengthening local food systems. With the support of scouts, leaders, and parents from Troop 4045 in Clifton Park, the Tech Park Community Garden now offers a more organized, productive, and welcoming environment for gardeners of all ages.
As Eagle Scout candidates like Leo continue to lead service projects across the region, their work reflects a lasting commitment to stewardship, community engagement, and building healthier neighborhoods one project at a time.
