CAPTAIN CHS's Clifton Park Expansion

CAPTAIN Community Human Services (CAPTAIN CHS), a longstanding cornerstone of Clifton Park’s community support network, has taken a significant step to address growing local needs by acquiring a new facility at 5 Chelsea Place. Previously owned by the Shenendehowa Central School District, this expansive 18,000 sq. ft. building was purchased for $1.8 million and will become the new Community Engagement & Resource Center.

The new center is set to dramatically enhance CAPTAIN CHS’s services, providing a 50% increase in programs including housing support, youth development initiatives, senior assistance, financial services, and empowerment opportunities. With triple the operational space of their previous location, the center will feature modern amenities designed to foster stronger community engagement, including a grocery store-style food pantry, a commercial kitchen for culinary classes, a dedicated child care center, classrooms, and collaborative workspaces for partner organizations.

Executive Director Andy Gilpin noted the strategic importance of this expansion, emphasizing the changing landscape of human services following the pandemic: “We’re incredibly grateful to Shenendehowa for partnering with us to acquire this facility, which allows us to significantly enhance our services and better support our community.”

To support this ambitious initiative, CAPTAIN CHS has launched the “Building Brighter Futures” capital campaign, aiming to raise over $5 million. The campaign has already received significant backing, demonstrating strong community support and a commitment to enhancing local resources and quality of life.
